S’porean E-Hailing Driver Who Worked Over 14 Hours A Day Left Paralysed By Stroke | WeirdKaya
A 37-year-old e-hailing driver in Singapore who worked long hours daily found himself unable to walk normally after he suffered a severe stroke in September.
Upon his admittance to the hospital, doctors found that certain unhealthy lifestyle habits had contributed to him being a stroke patient.
Starts work at 4am
According to Lianhe Zaobao , Wu Jin Xiong (transliteration) begins his day at 4am, where he would pick up his first customer and toil on for more than 14 hours.
His father told the Chinese daily that one day, Wu was suddenly unable to speak coherently and felt incredibly ill.

Wu was then rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and was diagnosed with stroke, with doctors saying that his high blood pressure was the main factor.
They also mentioned that Wu’s smoking habit, high cholesterol, and body weight were other risk factors that contributed to his condition.
His job as an e-hailing driver also led him to look “healthy” on the outside, when in reality his body was a ticking timebomb due to long periods of immobility.
Wu’s father said his son didn’t exercise regularly and often slept late after a long day of work.

Found relief in acupuncture
After spending a week at the hospital, Wu was transferred to Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Integrated Care Hub (ICH) to continue his recovery process.
However, he experienced pain and weakness in his arms during the early stages of his treatment.
At his father’s encouragement, Wu opted to undergo acupuncture treatment and found it to be highly effective in reducing the pain, which in turn allowed him to sleep better in the afternoon.
Loh Yong Joo, the head of Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Rehabilitation Medicine department, told Zaobao that painkillers aren’t recommended for stroke patients as it can pose risky side effects.

On the other hand, acupuncture provides a more holistic treatment on the physical and psychological aspect—something that taking Western medicine alone cannot achieve.
