KUCHING: Swinburne Sarawak has grown into one of the most successful international education ventures in the region.
Swinburne University of Technology vice president (Education, Experience and Employability) Ewan Evans said the campus here is a vibrant and respected institution, educating future leaders, driving research excellence, and contributing to the economic and social development of Sarawak and Malaysia.
“Over the past 25 years, together, we have built something truly remarkable. None of this has happened by chance.
“It has been made possible through the vision of government leaders, the commitment of the university staff, the support of industry partners, and the success of generations of students and graduates,” he said.
Evans, who is also the university’s registrar, was speaking during the Swinburne Sarawak award and appreciation dinner at a local hotel here, last night (Oct 13).
This year, Swinburne has maintained its place among the world’s top 300 universities in the QS and Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
The university also remained in the top 300 in the Shanghai Ranking, reflecting the increasing strength and influence of its research.
“These rankings represent the dedication of our staff, the achievements of our students and researchers, and the confidence that governments, industries, and communities place in Swinburne.
“This year, we are deeply honoured to have received the International Education and Training Award at the 2026 Governor of Victoria Export Awards.
“This recognition reflects the reach and impact of our transnational education model across Asia and the Middle East, and acknowledges the role that Swinburne Sarawak plays in that success,” said Evans.
Furthermore, he expressed excitement by the opportunities emerging in Sarawak with new research centre to be established through collaboration between the Sarawak government and Swinburne Sarawak.
He said the collaboration will be a significant investment in the future for both parties.
Other than that, the institution also launched its new global strategy, Ad Astra_2030, which reflects the belief that drives Swinburne forward — “when people and technology come together, we can build a better world”.
“Here in Sarawak, this ambition has been translated into Swinburne Sarawak 2030, a roadmap that responds to the evolving needs of Sarawak and the wider region, while remaining aligned to our shared global vision.
“Together, these strategies demonstrate what it means to be One Swinburne: one university, one purpose, and one commitment to creating meaningful impact, while recognising the unique strengths and opportunities of our communities.”
