Warung E'Jeap serves up a taste of kampung life in Dengkil
At Warung E’Jeap in Dengkil, mornings feel a world away from the rush of the city.
Tucked along a small lane away from the main road, the warung sits amid trees, older houses and plenty of greenery. There is little to suggest that you are anywhere near the bustle of modern life, which perhaps explains why it is famous among the local residents.
Warung E’Jeap has been around since 1996, and its menu appears to have stayed true to that uncomplicated spirit. There is no lengthy list of dishes to choose from – just a handful of familiar local breakfast favourites such as roti canai, nasi lemak, lontong and soto.
The tables and chairs are simple and somewhat makeshift, while the overall setting is decidedly that of an old-school kampung eatery.

Warung E’Jeap opens at 6.30am, and some of its more popular dishes, particularly the lontong, can sell out fairly quickly. So if you have your heart set on trying it, get there early.
Once you try the lontong, you’ll understand why people are willing to make the trip here. Served in a spicy coconuty vegetable broth, it has enough heat to jolt the senses awake first thing in the morning. The broth is packed with flavour, while the various condiments – such as the fried tempeh, hard-boiled egg, and of course the nasi impit – add different textures and tastes to each mouthful.
The roti telur goyang is another equally satisfying dish worth trying. Two soft-boiled eggs are expertly placed atop the roti which itself is flaky, buttery and fresh from the griddle. A little kicap and spicy sambal added to the mix brings another welcome hit of heat.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that early birds really do get the food here. And if the food is what brings you here, the setting is what makes you want to stay.
There is something particularly relaxing about sitting down to breakfast without the constant hum of traffic in the background. Instead, you hear birds chirping, see random chickens casually walking past, and feel the cool morning air around you.
That atmosphere also makes Warung E’Jeap feel different from the typical roadside breakfast stop. It is not polished or trendy, nor is it trying to be. Its appeal lies precisely in its simplicity.
Ultimately, for those looking for an uncomplicated Malaysian breakfast in a peaceful kampung setting, Warung E’Jeap offers a chance to slow down, breathe in some fresh morning air and start the day with good food.
