SARAWAK’S political stability is linked to the absence of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) from the state government, says Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
The Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said Sarawak should preserve its political stability and unity as the state pursued its development goals towards 2030.
“Political stability because we do not have DAP in the Sarawak Government,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (Oct 20).
Dr Sim also criticised DAP Sarawak’s approach in the Assembly, describing its conduct during DUN sessions as political drama and accusing the party of relying on publicity rather than substantive contributions.
He said Sarawak is fortunate to have strong unity among its people and political stability under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership.
Referring to political developments in Peninsular Malaysia, Dr Sim said Sarawak should avoid what he described as increasingly toxic, divisive and polarising political culture.
Dr Sim also urged Sarawakians to remain united during the critical years leading up to 2030, warning against forces he described as termites undermining the state from within and outside, including within Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
He called on Sarawakians, including those living outside the state and overseas, to support the GPS government and contribute towards building a stronger, more prosperous, inclusive and environmentally sustainable Sarawak.
“It is not good enough for the Premier to do well, but every Sarawak agency, every Sarawak NGO and every Sarawakian must do well also,” he said.
Dr Sim said Sarawak’s development should benefit all its people, including those living outside the state who might wish to return home to work, retire or enjoy the state’s way of life.
He also pointed to the state’s 2027 Budget, tabled by Abang Johari, which projected revenue of RM15.091 billion — the highest in Sarawak’s history — describing it as a people-centred budget supporting the state’s development agenda.
Dr Sim called on Sarawakians to continue working together to safeguard the state’s interests and ensure its progress towards 2030.
