3 siblings killed in motorcycle-lorry crash in Johor
Pontian police chief Hadzrat Hussein Mion Hussain said the accident, which occurred at about 7.20am, involved a Honda motorcycle ridden by an 18-year-old and his two younger siblings, aged 11 and eight.
He said the motorcycle was travelling from Jalan Parit Haji Omar towards Kayu Ara Pasong before it was involved in an accident with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
“The motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead while being treated at Pontian Hospital.
“The two pillion riders, who were the rider’s siblings, sustained serious injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama today.
Hadzrat said the 69-year-old lorry driver sustained injuries to his hands and both knees and received treatment.
He said preliminary findings suggest the motorcycle smashed into the front right side of the lorry, though the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the accident.
Both vehicles were impounded, with the case being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The victims were identified as Nor Daniel Fikri Norlizan, 11, Puteri Naufa Raisya, eight, and their older brother, Nor Daniel Aiman, 18.
Sinar Harian reported their mother, Julaiha Munaji, 43, as saying that the two younger siblings were excited about going to school this morning despite being told that all schools in the state had been closed because of the haze.
She said their older brother then decided to take them to school to show them it was closed.
