MIRI : Raudhatul Sakinah Cemetery at Batu 1, Kuala Baram, will receive upgraded facilities following an allocation of RM80,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
The funding was contributed by Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Piasau assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew to improve the cemetery’s physical infrastructure, support site management and provide greater convenience for members of the public.
The site handover and document submission ceremony was held at the cemetery on Friday (Oct. 16), marking a step towards the implementation of the upgrading project.
Ting was represented at the ceremony by his political secretary, Chia Kah Fung.
The signed project documents were formally handed over by a Public Works Department (JKR) engineer to the appointed contractor, Protea Enterprise, represented by Lucy.
The project covers the construction of three facilities: a guardhouse, a storage building and a lobby.
Construction was scheduled to begin on October 1, 2026 and is expected to be completed within six months, by March 31,2027.
The ceremony was attended by officers from the Miri Public Works Department, Raudhatul Sakinah Cemetery treasurer Yarabi Bob, and members of the cemetery management committee.
On behalf of the cemetery management, Yarabi expressed his appreciation to Ting for the allocation and his concern for the cemetery’s needs.
He also reaffirmed the management’s commitment to working closely with the relevant parties to ensure the project is completed successfully and according to schedule.
The upgrading initiative reflects the role of the RTP in supporting local infrastructure improvements and enhancing facilities for the community.
